Opening Chanting

Buddhist homage or salutation (예경)

• (Pāli) Namo tassa Bhagavato Arahato Sammāsambuddhassa. (x3)
  • (English) Reverence to him, the Blessed One, the Worthy One, the Perfectly Self-Enlightened One.
  • (Korean) 그분 바가와(세존), 공양받을 만한 분, 스스로 완전한 깨달음을 이루신 분께 예경드립니다.

Tisarana (Threefold Refuge, 삼귀의)

1. (Pāli) Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. Dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. Saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi.
   • (English) I go to the Buddha for refuge. I go to the Dhamma for refugre. I go to the Saṅgha for refuge.
   • (Korean) 붓다(부처님)께 귀의합니다. 담마(법, 가르침)에 귀의합니다. 상가(승가)에 귀의합니다.
2. (Pāli) Dutiyampi Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. Dutiyampi Dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. Dutiyampi Saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi.
   • (English) A second time I go to the Buddha for refuge. A second time I go to the Dhamma for refugre. A second time I go to the Saṅgha for refuge.
   • (Korean) 두 번째로 붓다(부처님)께 귀의합니다. 두 번째로 담마(법, 가르침)에 귀의합니다. 두 번째로 상가(승가)에 귀의합니다.
3. (Pāli) Tatiyampi Buddhaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. Tatiyampi Dhammaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi. Tatiyampi Saṅghaṁ saraṇaṁ gacchāmi.

Dedication of Merit (Puññānumodanā)

• (Pāli) Idaṁ me puññaṁ āsavakkhayā’vahaṁ hotu. Idaṁ me puññaṁ Nibbānassa paccayo hotu. Mama puññabhāgaṁ sabbasattānaṁ bhājemi, te sabbe me samaṁ puññabhāgaṁ labhantu. Sādhu! Sādhu! Sādhu!
  • (English) May my merit bring about the destruction of the pollutants. May my merit be a condition for (gaining) Emancipation. I share my portion of merits with all beings, may all of them share my portion of merits evenly. Well Said! Well Said! Well Said!
  • (Korean) 나의 이 공덕으로 번뇌를 소멸할 수 있기를. 나의 이 공덕으로 닙바나를 성취할 수 있기를. 나의 공덕을 모든 존재들과 함께 나눕니다. 모든 존재들이 나와 똑같이 공덕을 나누어 가지기를 기원합니다. 사-두 사-두 사-두 (훌륭합니다! 훌륭합니다! 훌륭합니다!)
